TIMKEN RECOGNIZED AS 50-YEAR DONOR TO THE OHIO FOUNDATION OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES
The Timken Company marked a milestone providing 50 years of support to The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) with its 2007-2008 donation, and recently received special acknowledgement from the OFIC for its consistent support.
Chairman of the Board Ward J. “Tim” Timken, Jr. accepted a plaque presented by Jeffrey S. Wolf, OFIC president. Also in attendance were Ward J. “Jack” Timken, President, Timken (Family) Foundation of Canton, and, from The Timken Company, James W. Griffith, President and CEO; Don Walker, Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Organizational Advancement; Traci Dunn, Director, Global Inclusion & Talent Acquisition; and Betsy Engels, Manager, Community Relations.
Representing OFIC member institutions and honoring The Timken Company’s long support of private higher education in Ohio were Richard Jusseaume, President, Walsh University; Gary W. Streit, President, Malone University; and Gregory L. King, Vice President for College Advancement, Mount Union College.
Since its first gift to OFIC in 1957, The Timken Company has provided a cumulative total of more than $1.7 million to OFIC’s 34 member colleges and universities for financial aid, educational programs and other areas of need such as libraries and technology. Additionally, the company has provided funding for various OFIC programs that have had significant benefits for OFIC member campuses and their students.
The Timken Family has also generously contributed time, expertise and leadership to assist in OFIC’s campaign efforts. Both W. R. Timken, Jr. and Ward J. Timken, brothers and the fourth generation of the family to lead The Timken Company and The Timken Family Foundation respectively, have ably and enthusiastically served OFIC in numerous volunteer capacities, including those of Chair of the Board of Trustees and Statewide Campaign Chair, for a cumulative total of 26 years of service. OFIC presented the two with a Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

For 59 years OFIC has worked to highlight the leadership, value and excellence of independent higher education and has provided unrestricted operating funds and scholarship commitments through funds raised in annual solicitations of businesses and foundations, thereby assuring continuation of excellence in private higher education. OFIC is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Ohio’s corporate leaders, as well as presidents of the 34 member colleges.
